Easter Egg-venture

The Western Colorado Easter Egg-Venture -- An Accessible Adventure for Children With Blindness or Visual Impairments and Their Siblings is free thanks to support from Orchard Mesa Lions Club, Center for Independence Low Vision/Blind Program, and A Shared Vision.

Every child enjoys finding surprises hidden around them, and adults love watching children discover their world. This accessible egg hunt will ensure that every child and family get to experience that sense of accomplishment and enjoy an Easter basket full of fun.

Please join us for this fun-filled, inclusive event!

Saturday, March 30th from 10 am to 2 pm. Registration is required!

The registration Deadline is March 15th.

Beeping Egg hunt is for children who are visually impaired, are 12 years old or under, and their siblings (siblings get to wear blindfolds or glasses that simulate low vision during the beeping hunt).

There will be separate hunts for different ages/needs.

Participants will enjoy sensory-friendly crafts, music, and an accessible Easter egg hunt. Some children with vision impairment prefer softer sounds; therefore, a quieter area with activities will be available for children who are more sensitive to sounds during the hunt. Frequently Asked Questions

How exactly does a beeping egg hunt work?

For many this is the first experience with an audible egg hunt! The plastic eggs are filled with battery-operated beepers, so they can be heard even when they're not readily seen. Clear directions on how to hunt for them will be provided for children, their siblings, parents, and event organizers so that we can all be prepared ahead. The details will be emailed to you after you register for the event.

Why are children who are sighted asked to wear blindfolds?

We are so EGG-cited to offer blindfolds to our friends with sight who want to hunt beeping eggs using their ears, hands, and brains! This allows the event to bring both children who are visually impaired and children with sight truly together. They will work together to hunt the beeping eggs and  discover that it is possible to succeed at the same exact activity. We have seen many siblings enjoy the opportunity to experience how someone without the use of their vision can be a confident, independent traveler and egg hunter!

Is the event wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Our outdoor venue has wheelchair-friendly sidewalks surrounding the grassy area.

Will there be an accessible restroom?

Yes.

If I'm a community member can I attend the event

Yes! Just register so we know that you're joining to learn more (For example, are you a teacher of students who are visually impaired,  eye doctor, a Lion from another club, or simply someone who wants to learn more about supporting people with  vision impairments in our community?)   The hunt itself will be limited to the children with visual impairments and their siblings.
